SOSHEDO Foundation implements integrated public health interventions aimed at improving access to prevention, treatment, care, referral and psychosocial support among vulnerable and underserved communities. Over the implementation period, SOSHEDO has reached more than 5,000 community members, including women, men, adolescents, young people, children, fisherfolk and other at-risk populations, through community outreaches, health education, referrals and awareness activities.

Our interventions cover HIV/AIDS prevention, maternal and child health (MCH), malaria, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), gender-based violence (GBV), and mental health. HIV interventions include community sensitisation, HIV risk-reduction education, condom promotion, HIV testing and counselling, linkage to treatment and care, adherence support and referrals.

For maternal and child health, SOSHEDO promotes ANC attendance, skilled delivery, postnatal care, immunisation, family planning, exclusive breastfeeding, nutrition and early care-seeking for childhood illnesses. Community mobilisation helps mothers and caregivers access available health services.

SOSHEDO conducts malaria prevention through education on consistent use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, environmental management, early testing and prompt treatment. The Foundation also promotes STI prevention and referral, NCD screening, healthy lifestyles and early health-seeking behaviour.

For GBV and mental health, SOSHEDO provides community awareness, psychosocial support, basic counselling, identification of cases and referral to appropriate health and protection services.

Geographically, SOSHEDO works across the Teso and northern Sub-regions of uganda with particular attention to landing sites, fishing communities and hard-to-reach rural areas. These areas face barriers to accessing healthcare, including distance and geographical challenges.

Through community outreaches and partnerships with health facilities, VHTs, local leaders and community structures, SOSHEDO brings services closer to underserved populations, strengthens referral pathways and promotes equitable access to quality health services.
